Going beyond 1 website, I was able to find that Toxicity: 1-2 drops of 0.1% solution in infants; 2.5-5cc of 0.05% solution. Now Visine brand eye drops are sold in 15cc quantities of the 0.05% solution. So roughly enough to poison 3 babies. Now unless this guy is an infant (physically that is) it would take more than one whole bottle of the stuff to even induce mild bradycardia. What it really boils down to though Dave, is that most of your posts are unnecessarily caustic, so I thought it would be fun to give you a hard time (which it was, by all means). Perhaps the quest for enlightenment should extend beyond trying to make ourselves sound smart at others' expense, using only one-click research methods and derivative viewpoints.

Trolled, in that my response took.. I am going to estimate, twelve seconds. Your reply is over twice as long as any of mine to you, and you spent the time to research it. If you had gotten me incensed, perhaps IHBT, but as it stands, you wasted part of your day just to let me know that I don't need to pay attention to you. Go back to Slashdot.

If by "give you a hard time" you mean "misuse the word 'quantify'", then it sounds like you succeeded admirably. Congrats!

(What was it you were saying about trying to make ourselves sound smart at others' expense?)

yet another pointless pissing match

quantify

v 1: use as a quantifier; in logic 2: express as a quantity; "Can you quantify your results?"

it's applicable. Trolled as in you predictably lashed out with a personal attack - like I said - caustic

Dave is likely to use nothing on him/her; he/she has made it pretty clear that they're not even worth the minimal effort it takes for me to rant at.

However, insoluble is definitely in danger of being filed away as "Borderline Retarded" for their insistence that I lashed out with a personal attack when there was no such attack. But whatever.

Since nit-picking was occurring before I arrived on the scene... doesn't "quantify" always refer to a quantity? In order to quantify results, wouldn't one need to be providing numerical evidence to back the results?

Anyway...

One thing to keep in mind about the eye is that it's plumbed to move fluid out on the eye, not to absorb it so much. That's part of the reason such drops work well, they stay on the surface of the eye rather than absorbing. The mouth and stomach are much more apt to absorb foreign fluids. And depending on the entry point, what is absorbed will naturally end up in a different place (and/or take a different route to get there), leading to different effects upon the body.

For instance, if I'm not mistaken, swallowed fluids will hit the kidneys relatively fast. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

well can wriggle out of it by saying that I was asking dave how much visine he thought was toxic? If that doesn't fly then I fucked up, my bad, oops.

Those are good points about the non-absorptive qualities of the eye. The lacrimal ducts or accesory structures do go to the back of the throat though. But yes I agree that the eye is plumbed to evacuate fluids.

So I guess I was marginally wrong.
