Oops, I was probably the first to make the "free" connection, because of our free walking around beverages.
And because I was wishing so hard that it was true...

The first picture Bruce posted is the one with the free beer. It's possible there's a big price sign just out of shot, but I know they give away free pieces of organic fruit in an almost identical cooler. At their prices a piece of fruit is almost the same cost as a can of beer.

Ahh, I see. The 99 cent beers look like PBR and the like. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) The freebies look more like specialty beers they would like to sell more of. That makes sense.
I can't imagine giving away free beer here in Ohio, but I don't know: the nearest Whole Foods are either Columbus or Cincinnati. I'd like to check one out, sounds like an interesting place. |

Just opened a whole foods in MS. Bet no free beer there.
I've not been, yet as it's in north Jackson.

There's a Rural King (home and farm supplies) store a couple counties over that gives out free popcorn and coffee.

Free popcorn would slay me.
Supermarkets already make me thirsty, to the extent that when I lived alone I would have to chug a can of soft drink before going in. Otherwise I'd end up with 15 types of fruit juice and no liver sausage.

Popcorn is considered a healthy diet food by some here (it's usually salted, not sugar coated). And "whole grain"

Not sure many states allow you to give away alcohol. NY doesn't allow it, and has restrictions on 2 for 1 and "all you can drink" specials.
The mimosa brunch has been hobbled.

In Virginia, I've seen wine samples given out, at both wineries and grocery stores, but I've never seen anything like those free beers. And there was always a server dispensing just a couple sips. No self serve.

Well, I was at Kroger today and they had a wine-tasting. It was just some guy giving out little cups of a couple types of wine, and there was a plate of cheese and crackers. The cheese and crackers almost pulled me in. So I guess you can do that sort of thing in Ohio.
He got some big guy to taste a wine. I would have, also, except I would have stood there for a couple hours, eventually demanding "more wine, shir, I thaid I want more wine! WHAT?" |
