it did, thanks all of you. bizarelly, finding things that were close but not quite right and seeing the prices made us more firm in the conviction that the first one I found was right and we should go with it. It is now ordered and is being shipped from VA. Just hope it doesn't take too long.....

monnie, keep the old motor and have it rewound. you can find someone locally to do this. that way you have a spare. an auto shop or parts store should be able to give you a lead to someone who does this type of work. my dad back in the day always had an extra on hand so that when one went bad he had the other to replace it then would have the burnt up one redone. someone who rewinds alternators should be able to handle this task. not throwing salt on the wound but that's what crashed the twin i was flying (the very one zip and i flew in when i went to visit him) only thing is that airplane starters are a bit different from my understanding hence why they kept burning up. be that as it may, have the old one repaired as to have an extra on hand.

The rebuild will cost over 5K. (and take longer). And come with no warranty. They said it's basically toast. it would only be advisable if no other was available anywhere. Of course they also said there wasn't another one anywhere

alright then. either way, don't throw away the old motor. it might take me a week or so but let me look around here. i might be able to find someone who can do it cheaply. worth a shot anyway. i do have a shop in mind.

I'd listen to Plthijinx on this. Those guys who ruled out rebuilding are clueless or crooks, if not both. Of course it depends on exactly what went wrong with the old one.

(we just did the same thing with the chlorine and acid pumps we replaced. It's been an expensive maintenance year....)
