I like this book:

I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974. - Jeffrey Eugenides, Middlesex (2002)

Winter comes early in this city. The first snow covers all the soot and debris that three other seasons left behind.

"He - for there could be no doubt of his sex, though the fashion of the time did something to disguise it - was in the act of slicing at the head of a Moor which swung from the rafters."

I love that book, like I said.

I borrowed The Virgin Suicides, also by Eugenides, from the library but never got around to reading it. I liked the movie, though.
