Parents spoon feeding their little ones would hold the spoon up and say “Here comes the airplane in for a landing, open the hanger.” while mimicking airplane noise and moving the spoon around in the air as though it were flying. The child wouldn’t understand what was being said; but, was sufficiently amused by the sound and motion to laugh. As the mouth (hanger) opened, in went the food on the spoon (airplane) and the word "open" repeated so the child would learn to associate it with the action.
