SG and FT3, when I joined there was a thread about the storms then running in the Politics forum.
It seemed to me it was a lot of name-calling, but for the most part I think that has fallen off -- almost completely. I can still name two Dwellars who can't stop spitting at one another, but they sometimes do manage to deal with non-personal issues and "facts" in between. For myself, I joined for the Politics / Current Events discussions, because there did not seem to be enough liberal counterpoint showing up among those forums. Others here have their own ideas about what is going on, regarding Classic or others, and who all they find "irritating". I admit to feeling that Emma was too much for me, and I'm glad there is no evidence of her presence left around anymore. It bothered me to put her on my first Ignore List, but there was no other way for me to express my disgust. I'm of a mind that if some number (> 2 ?) of Private Messages or emails were sent to a person, they should moderate their postings or leave. Certainly I will, and my email address will always be available to all registered Dwellars. |

Lamp - I am a liberal. A European liberal. A bleeding heart European liberal. And a Brit at that.
I hold my hands up that some people's comments/ posts/ opinions have made me retch (okay, not literally) I can deal with that. But the bottom line is I CAN deal with that. I can take UG's advice in recipes in recipe threads. I can appreciate Wolf's frankly hilarious set pieces on insects without getting into a row about guns. I can read Ib's issues about our gender bias and accept RichLevy's Judaism and Sheldon's cockism and Clod's struggle to be a bloody good mother and all that and all and everything. I don't think any thread can fail because of a lack of political bias. But I admit I find it difficult to argue politics without a personal bias. As you can see above. What's better? People like me with more emotion than intellect just shut up? Or get offended and cause rows which move into personal insults? Ah, I dunno. Will give up for a while.

SG, this is the problem with emails. Too easy to misunderstand.
Nothing I said above was meant as criticism of you. Certainly I want eveyone's participation... enthusiastically I guess that I was/am feeling guilty of what you and FT3 were talking about. I have gotten into it with Merc and others, and more recently Classic and I had some exchanges with differences of opinion. But I hope it was only by coincidence the Classic left at that time he did. Beyond that, I had no hidden message for anyone. Instead I tried to explicitly say, if I'm part of the problem I'll do something to fix it. Peace ... |

I think UG and I share the same taste in tea - and nothing else.
![]() Seriously, I popped in to the "I Miss Bush" thread for the first time today and .. wow. ![]() Or maybe a better analogy is throwing raw meat into the ocean and waiting for sharks.
