often, a customer wants a car that has a particular configurations of options or colors that we don't happen to have in stock. The path of least resistance is to then overcome that objection by locating the vehicle in another dealer's inventory. We call this a 'locate.' It represents more expense to the dealer because we have to pay a driver to exchange cars with the dealer that has that particular car in inventory. So, we encourage our salesmen to sell from stock....to that end, there is a big sign in the salesmen's collective office that says 'NO LOCATES!'

It is my habit to drive to work with my tie off, and to tie it once i get there. I usually use the window in the door on the opposite wall from where this sign is hung to see what I'm doing. So each morning, I glimpse that sign.......and I always see:


" NO LOLCATS "
