So why not take action?

We've also caused a whole lot of other things that will make matters worse. Case in point, ethanol in gasoline. It takes more energy to make the ethanol than any savings we may get from using it. Couple that with the drop in gas mileage that occurs by using it, and you have actually caused more pollution than if you had done nothing.
Also, the economic hardships that the goofy solutions would and are causing would be just as catastrophic as global warming.
Oh, and the planet has been cooling for almost a decade now.
