5th time's the charm?

So, beautiful Daughter No. 1 just told me she thought she was pregnant with her 5th child, a situation she and her husband did not want. She's got 4 girls, and the youngest will enter pre-school in the fall. She was looking forward to moving on to different phases of her life.

There are circumstances which give weight to the "meant to be" scenario. They were careful, and this is an accident, but -- she's in shock, but she'll deal. Maybe they'll have a boy this time, or maybe this little soul just needed a really special mother, because she is.

How old is the oldest? Perhaps the older ones will help out and give your daughter a bit more freedom than she had with the others.

Oldest daughter is about to turn 12. They do help. I think she's more worried about what people will think--she's dreading telling people.

What would people think? Why does it matter what they think anyway.

Things happen. I'm sure she'll do a great job, specially with the older ones to help out.

Cloud, charmed numbers are: three, seven, nine, (well, any number divisible by three, actually) and 882. (that's the number of gold pieces the pirates of the caribbean had to have to break the charm)

oh, and 69.

That's some rum luck, Cloud. Hope she gets her head around it soon.

Maybe she will have a daughter thsi time. Am I wrong in thinking later children are more likely to be female and earlier children more likely to be male? Have I got that wrong? Is it an old wives tale?

It's an old husband's tale, actually.

Cloud, she's a great mother, as you said. This child will be another blessing, in all your lives.

Is she afraid someone will try to trademark Pentamom?
I think it's best to go with the "meant to be" route, and just try really, really hard not to spoil the youngest for all the joy s/he will surely bring.

This happened to some friends of ours. When I heard the news that they were having another one well after they thought they were done, I was happy for them. They freely admitted that it was a surprise, but had a real sense of humor about the whole situation. Nobody thought anything negative of them.

When they eventually had the kid, all the other moms were fighting each other to get a chance to hold that baby. They had all stopped having kids and missed holding babies.

It was unexpected, but good.

My younger brother was rather unexpected. What a blessing he has been in all our lives. I was 8 and my older brother was 10 when the younger was born. Boy, did we love him!

Tell her to move out by me. There's lots of large families around here -- a very Catholic area.

Or you could tell her not to worry so much about what other people think. Just do right by the kid.

Yeah. I mean, I'm telling her all those things. And of course, I'm happy--more grandkids are merrier, ya know? But I don't have to raise them.
