Hey, while I have you musicians around...what about the song itself: the music, the arrangement...isn't the PenisColada song rather...tripe?

Absolutely. As pop/rock-generic as possible for its time. The whole point of the arrangement is to get out of the way of the big vocal, so the listener can be bashed over the head with the lyric.

Of course there are other artists that use this approach, they're just more subtle about it. (B. Springsteen)
