Hey girls... (no, I'm not comin' on to ya')
March 8 is International Women's Day. The day is a global celebration of the achievements and impact of women. Part of the goal of the day is to help women attain equal rights worldwide. In many parts of the world, March 8 is an official holiday.

i think this day is important for some areas of the world .
There are lots of places where rape is used as a weapon of war or the men die because of the AIDS epidemics leaving the females to fend for themselves. In these areas women do not have rights and are starving. But there are plenty of other places where women are the leaders of countrys and do just as good as many of there male counterparts. Sometimes better. I was looking at a timetable and grid of world leaders and it seemed to show that when women were in charge there was less war or less talk of war. Maybe that says something. |

If graduation rates are any indication many males are giving up on leadership roles. Schools are apparently miserable places for them.

so? your blaming women for men giving up on leadership ?
I don't know what you guys do over there but here teachers are given instruction on how to teach boys. Just boys, for boys.

Well get on a plane and travel around the world and go tell all those women how they are getting their 'wish' . They'll be greatful to here it. Don't you think calling it a 'wish' is a bit pedantic?

The fact that this thread turned so negative so quickly is a great indicator.

From HLJ's link:
In separate research that Kleinfeld is also preparing for publication, she has possibly gotten to the root of the problem. "Here's a fascinating fact," she said. "There is no literacy gap in home-schooled boys and girls." "Why? In school, teachers emphasize reading literature and talking about character and feelings," she said. "This way of teaching reading does not turn boys on. Boys prefer reading nonfiction, such as history and adventure books. When they are taught at home, parents are more likely to let them follow their interests." I guess that brings a couple threads together. As far as negativity goes, it is apparent that l'chocoswirl and I do not share a common language. ![]()

I'm not saying I have an answer to this, I just think there's more to it than 'teachers ought to talk less about characters' feelings.' |
