Advanced Micro Devices Inc., the world's No. 2 provider of chips that power personal computers and servers, is ramping up factory output in an attempt to grab more market share from larger rival Intel Corp., the company's top executives said Thursday.

Daryl Ostrander, the company's senior vice president of manufacturing, said that AMD's annual wafer starts will increase fourfold over the next three years at its factories in Germany.

"We will be fully positioned to serve one-third of the (chip) market by 2008," he told investors at the company's analyst day in Sunnyvale, Calif.
