Please can you clarify, Marichiko:

Do you mean that the baby's a rubber one? Is the baby in a buggy or is the buggy a baby one? Or are the tires baby ones? Is the bumper made of rubber, or maybe its the buggy that's made of rubber?

I'm so confused I haven't had a chance yet to work out if it's an insult or not. I mean, it could well mean that my bike is good one because it has tires that wouldn't do damage to a baby buggy...

I think you have genuinely perfected the art of the subtle slur, my dear....

I guess you Brit's don't have that child's tongue twister? Little kids over here try to say that phrase really fast several times in a row, and it ends up becoming an even more delightful piece of non-sense than it already is. Imagine a 5 year old shouting "rubber baby buggy bumper tires (tyres)" as fast as s/he can lisp it 7 or 8 times in a row. Cheap thrills for the kindergarten crowd. (was that subtle enough?)

BTW, I've read enough British novels to feel a true sense of terror at the British, well educated, put down. I DID read Ian's book, you know. Did you ever get a copy of it? I still have that damn small barking dog that accompanied the latest set of official UK government forms that Social Scrutiny afflicted me with!
