Leaving for Vietnam

I've been shopping and packing for a trip to Vietnam on Wednesday. I haven't been together with my wife in over a year and I can't take it anymore. I'm going to try to talk some sense into the Consulate, and if that doesn't work, I'll go shopping for a Palestinian vest to wear when I visit the next time.

Seriously though I'm going to travel around Vietnam. I chose a great time too. It's the rainy season. It's going to rain constantly until October. At least it won't be AS hot, though there might be even MORE mosquitos!!

I'll only be there for 2 and a half weeks. It was nice of my new job to let me go on this trip. They really like me.

I picked up some shorts, t-shirts, and a ton of gifts for my in-laws. They were sad when I couldn't make it for Tet this year so they are thrilled that I can come now.

I am just now noticing how controlling my wife is. She's telling me who I can drink with, how much I can drink, who to buy gifts for, what to buy, etc. I need to nip this in the bud right now before it gets out of hand. I realize she's looking out for me and she's worried about me. But I'm a grown man and an Irish man at that. I know all about drinking.

Anyway, I leave Wednesday night (technically Thursday morning at 1:30am) and I'll try to check in when I can.

Thanks. I hope it works out too. I've sure been waiting long enough.

aren't Vietnamese women traditionally the rulers of their households? If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. eh, she's probably had her own set of familial pressures during the time you've been apart. She'll even out.

I just had a visual of Andy Capp sneaking in the front door in the middle of the night and the wife standing there with a rolling pin...

Ut-fucking-oh.

And you still think she hasn't intentionally screwed up the interviews, right?

May what you have actually be what you wanted.

All the Vietnamese women I've ever known rule not only with an iron fist, but with a loud voice and vicious passive-aggressive streak to back it up. And their definition of compromise is finding a way to convince you that what they want is really best for you. Controlling doesn't even begin to describe... but it's always possible Radar's wife is different.

Is that where Robert Duvall brought the choppers in low to kick up the surf?

And therein lies the problem.

hardcore libertarian philosophy meets real life in a communist workers' paradise...sounds like a tv reality show. a fish out of water story, if you will.
