According to IMDB, the only TV appearance close to that was on Cosby, in an episode that ran in 1999. The Russell Huxtable, Cliff's Dad in the Cosby Show was played by Earle Hyman.
I had the same misplacement issue. I have to watch Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to prove to myself that he wasn't the invisible dog walker.
