Via Slashdot:

If you needed a reason to avoid IE besides the poor standards support and lack of pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing, here's another... some security holes have been found in IE which are so dangerous that the US Dept. of Homeland Security has recommended that IE not be used at all.

Reportedly, Mozilla and Firefox downloads have more than doubled as a result. It looks like this may just let these superior open-source alternatives get a foot in the door.

Indeed, monopolies breed stagnation, as IE's pitiful security demonstrates. Does IE do anything better than the current alternatives?

Follow-up... the Slate, which is owned by Microsoft (url is slate.msn.com), also says we should stop using IE. Hinky.

Aw man! I like using IE to open my chatroom. It doesn't make me top post like Mozilla does! :p

Hell, as far as I'm concerned, every browser has it's faults. I'll bet there is probably security issues with Mozilla too.

I'd still switch to Firebird, tho.

How's Mozilla for pop-ups and use of javascript windows? I use Opera mostly and it's great in that you can completely block ALL pop up windows and ads. However, in doing that, you also block pop-up windows you might want, like those little help windows on your bank's online site or stuff you actively click on that might pop up in a new window without closing your current one. I use IE when I simply can't get a site to function without javascript pop-ups. It's uncommon that I run into that but it happens.

Mozilla/Firefox allow you to block popups, but allow ones that are caused by an explicit user click.
