It's Groundhog Day, when Phil comes out of his cellar! Here's the deal. Who can find a better groundhog pic? Contest closes at midnight tonight. |

Haven't found a good groundhog picture yet, but I did find this joke-article from a place claiming to be "the least trustworthy site for news on the internet". "Phoenix Phil, Arizona's official groundhog, was buried alive beneath a recently constructed K Mart parking lot. Therefore, he will not appear on Groundhog Day and will not forecast the weather this year by looking for his shadow. " On another count, does anyone read Astronomy or remember the 'Strange Universe' column from last year relating to groundhog's day? There will always be six more weeks of Winter, because Spring does not start until March. I'll try to find the column. |

February 20, 2002 is a 'palindrome' day, if written in the non-American style: 20/02/2002. This method of expressing a date actually makes more sense, if you think about it. Day, month, year; smaller to larger. Your mission: when is the next occurence of this phenomenon? |

Augh! No February 30th? Damn. I guess we have to agree on the fules, whether there's a leading zero or whether it's optional. |

Wow. I found some WIERD images while browsing for groundhog/woodchuck pictures. One I found especially amusing was "iCanGoBackwards.jpg", showing this middle-aged lady skating backwards.

Yeah, I suppose Day/Month/Year might be better for some people, but it's not for everyone. Month/Day works for me, 'cos I say "January 20th," not "the 20th of January." In addition, if I were to date some of my regularly kept files by day/month, the sorting would be all wrong. saved-messages 01.07 saved-messages 01.08 August 1's messages would come right after July 1's. Enh, a silly response to a silly thing, and like you said, I guess it doesn't really matter. :p sapienza |

In your file cabinet, is July 1 1985 followed by July 2 2001, or do you go by year - month - day? You would probably adjust your filing system to organize by larger block of time - medium block of time - smallest block of time. I think of our year-month-day system in approximately the same light as I do our measuring system. Also, I think our dating system is more confusing to learn, just going by my memories from childhood ("okay, which goes first!?"). By now it is as ingrained a part of life as daily crashes are for long-time Windows users. It doesn't register in our minds any more. |
