A *friend of a friend of a person I know* (in other words, being intentionally vague)
was in the alternative medicine field and not only dispensed the kool-aid, but also dipped deeply into their stash, decided they were going to go all alternative medicine when their one or two year old child had some minor childhood illness that is routinely treated with antibiotics.

The illness progressed unchecked despite repeated kool-aid treatments until it became meningitis and now they have a 20 something year old kid who is severely brain damaged.

And they still think they made the right decision and are still strong advocates of the kool-aid cure.
