Psychopathy comes about through a combination of genetic and environmental factors, if I recall the analysis correctly. His brain mapped out to the pattern associated with psychopaths, but he hadn't experienced the environmental aspects. The problem seems to be when someone with that brain set-up has a particular kind of upbringing. Someone without that brain set-up whose parents were cold and abusive comes out damaged but not psychopathic - someone with that brain set-up likely comes out psychopathic.

Someone can have all the starting traits but learn emotional responses and all that, from the family.

That's grossly simplified but there ya go.
