Medical pornography

is what one of my profs calls it. Tropical medicine. All the 3-foot worms and liver flukes and stuff that burrows through the skin of your feet as you blissfully squish the beach sand through your toes ... schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis, onchoceriasis, filariasis. There's a poetry in those name that belies the reality. Please don't google these things. You'll find stuff like guinea worms that form lumps under the skin and then burst out of your arms or legs but have to be pulled out very slowly, wrapped around a stick and drawn out a bit more each day ... ... and that's not the worst of it.

To me, this is NOT pornography. I suppose, maybe, in terms of being unable to look away from a car crash or train wreck ... but arousing it is NOT. However, I have another week, nine hours/day, of viewing/reviewing/internalizing this material. So what pornography did you encounter in your day today?
