JB is flying a flag of his own design and weaving, his own interpretation. He doesn't define the Christian God. Most people agree that radical Islamists don't define true Islam, but they are a strong political force and are doing tremendous damage around the world. They claim the Koran as their guide and justification. There are plenty historical examples of atrocities they've committed and are committing, yet Islam is generally regarded as separate from their actions.
Christianity is commonly defined (by non-Christians) by the worst actions of certain groups of its followers (there have been plenty of non-violent Christians through the centuries but they aren't considered to represent their religion, as we consider non-violent Muslims to truly represent theirs). Those who define one religion by the worst that has been done in its name, however repulsive those actions are to other adherents of the religion, should be consistent. Do it for one, do it for all. I would prefer the approach of not sweepingly defining and condemning entire non-homogenous groups that are not simple in makeup, theology, or history.
