Well in the books you get pages of description on the style of the door casing, the engraving on the knob, the shape of the keyhole, and the umpteenth description of the Walther PPK.

This is the thing though, he read them on the promise of steamy sex, and discovered that there were books that could be read for the sheer enjoyment of reading. I mean he also ploughed through The Lord of the Rings, and Tolkein can be quite turgid. And not in a good way.

I read a list a few years back, of books to encourage teenage boys to read.
I wondered whether I should get some of them for my nephew, if he continued to be a reluctant reader (he has).
Now I know it would do no good - he gets everything he needs from other sources. I'm looking at you, internet.

Shame - I'd have loved to be the cool Aunty who introduced him to the Guy N Smith books about killer crabs...
