February 27, 2012 Three Weeks and Twenty-One Feet to Lolong

Meet Lolong. The biggest salt-water crocodile ever captured. It was caught in the Philippines and weighed in at 2,369-pounds (1,075-kilograms) and measured 21-foot-long (6.4-meter-long). They think he's about 50 years old.

According to Wikipedia it took three weeks to hunt down and about 100 people to take it out of the water. He broke out of his ropes twice and was not very happy about being captured. Sounds like they ended up using metal cables to tie him down.

Lolong is suspected of attacking several people and killing two, which is probably why they went after him. Maybe it was just the challenge.

The only way they can prove he commited these acts is to kill him and slice him open to see what is in his tummy. They did induce vomiting, but no human remains came up. I guess it's been a while since he's feasted on human flesh.

More info and pics at National Geographic Daily News.

Wikipedia has some interesting tidbits, too.

A few ore pics on Buzzfeed.
