Street Fire in Hole - news at 11.. and 10... and 9...
The newsmen of Action News again scooped a coup! They preempted world news to report a serious gas fire in the street near LaSalle U. Nothing happened. Fire just burned and burned while real news (network news) was never aired (thank you again BBC for taking up the slack). But just like during the WTC collapse, silly Action News must report the Philadelphia viewpoint. What Philadelphia viewpoint? These local gossip reporters actually thought they were so important as to even preempt a falling WTC to provide the Philadelphia viewpoint! I wonder. Anyone in ABC network know what the local gossip really airs?
But the Big Story: Jim Garner and his Liza Thomas Laurie peers could not even report a fact. Fact. The gas company could not shut off gas even hours after a fire starts. What happens during a real disaster that requires a PGW (gas company) response? Live reporting that preempts Peter Jennings did not even follow gas company crew. Did not show us how PGW employees get no technical support from finance oriented (politically appointed) managers. Where is the hype in exposing PGW management problems? Gas company could not even turn off the gas hours later. But no - Actions news must provide round the clock coverage of the flames - to insult viewers awaiting real news from the network. The fire itself is a single five second picture or a little display dumbed down in the right corner. No news to report - unless Action News will expose a serious PGW management problem. But where is the hype in a story about why problems really happen? Its not Action News. Its really called the local gossip. In the meantime, a fire in my fireplace is a better news story. So where is that news van? The local gossip does this often. At least until Jeopardy must air. What is more important? Jeopardy is bigger news than a street fire. Live reporting of a street fire was preempted by Jeopardy! Jeopardy is that important? What does that make Peter Jennings? |
