Jan 4, 2011: Sarcophagus
This 1800 year old Roman sarcophagus was discovered in 1931, and they're still figuring out who's in it.
The incredibly detailed battle scene carved on the outside, must have taken a long time and enormous expense.  From the carvings they think it's Aulus Iulius Pompilius, but can't be sure. In that detailed carving, only the face of the general was left blank. link
