Imagine that you're going for a job interview and you handled questions like this; just being human. In certain situations, being polished means you have done your homework and are prepared, with the information you need to do the job.
Myself, I like to cultivate a casual conversationalism, but it's peppered with white-hot information nuggets, which, if you know enough to catch on, reveal that I very deeply know what I'm talking about. Being unpolished is nice--if you are, simultaneously, casually confident with some actual, useful information.
