Generally I start with a 25 by 25 pixel tile, magnified times 8, then ctrl+a, ctrl+c (select all, copy) image, attributes, increase to 50 by 50, ctrl+v, (optional ctrl+r, r to rotate), fill up the new tile, ctrl+a, ctrl+c, ctrl+v times 3, repeat, (decreasing magnification as necesary).
