But seriously, you should think of it in terms of natural selection. Any religion which espouses evangelism and easy conversion is going to survive, and those which do not will remain a perpetual minority at best. Hell, the Shakers believed in no sex for anyone ever, and that clearly worked out well for them. The Catholics, on the other hand, have maintained large numbers worldwide at least partially through the proscription of birth control. Take heart: Paganism has quite a few survival instincts as well, it'll just take awhile for it to find a biological niche to fill.
