It's no secret all the military schools, north and south, were openly racist and sexist for as long as they could get away with it. It's wrong now, but I'm uncomfortable with this trend of projecting today's standards on past generations. Remember it's only wrong today because the majority(at least the vocal ones) believe it.

It's also wrong in the US today to eat puppies. But if most people wanted to eat puppies not doing so would not be the standard of behavior.
