Excellent find, Carr, what a beautiful shot that is.

Those flares give great effects but being in the right place/time, plus you and your gear being ready, then actually getting the shot is mind boggling to me. All my photographs would be blue ribbon winners if they came out half as good as I had planned in my minds eye. The fifth picture at the Huff link, looking at the HMS Montrose through the windshield of the Lynx, they were close to standing that sumbitch on it's nose, and the photographer, Alex Knott, was probably on a tether to keep him out of the cockpit.

Yeah, those pictures are good. I like this one with the still water reflecting it so well.

It isn't until you look more closely that you see the still water is just a puddle on the dock. It's a ship reflected in a puddle. Too funny. Clever photographer. |

Good eye glatt. Funny, when I saw the picture I wondered how long the guy had to wait for that mirror calm, and never realized it was a puddle. But that makes me wonder why they don't fix the dock, it's got to be a pain in the butt.

The only reason I noticed it is that I saw the trick used before when someone photographed Mitre Peak in New Zealand. Theirs looked something like this:

When I visited the same spot, I was trying to take the same picture, but even with the water fairly still first thing in the morning, it was all choppy. Mine looked more like this: It wasn't until later that I noticed they had used a puddle. Taking a Mitre Peak shot reflected in that puddle is a popular trick with the pros. |
