In order to ensure an active listening experience for all of you, I've decided not to normalize my disc, thus ensuring you are paying attention as you adjust the volume between songs.

I think it is going to enhance that whole 'guerilla music exchange' feel...

He'd just send out the Osmond's greatest hits anyway.

Here's another question ... how are we going to handle the inevitable comments ... email to the originator of the disk? Although I'd be interested in what everbody has to say about everybody (as usual) I don't want the surprise associated with getting the CDs spoiled ...

(wonder how much duplication we'll have too ... I'm guessing relatively little)

Not true...I'm just too lazy to reinstall my hacked copy of Sound Forge and run all these damn tracks through it.

I've already had so much fun with this, I'm going to make my #2 collection tonight, in anticipation of the enormous success of the first round.

This will actually give me some time to put thought into the next batch, instead of going with what struck me right off the bat.

This is easy, LJ, the dumbass that started this simply creates a thread titled "I Got It!", we post there.

Mine is done & waiting to be mailed, I gave it the wife test, she loves it, now I've had to make 3 copies already because of word of mouth.

This was fun, I think I'd forgotten the power of music. This was a very emotional experience for me, sort of a get to know me, get to know myself kind of thing. And I'm not some candy ass feelings type guy, but worked on my disc all day and was surprised by the emotions I had doing it.

Life aint so bad.

I was thinking of including two or three sheets of paper with a form that says:

Handle:
Favorite Track:
Least Favorite Track:
General Comments praises, and Gripes:

This is messing with MY cool factor, now. I am going to have to get him a new image.

I am working on my disc right now. I am sure some of you will hate some of it, some of you might like some of it, and nobody will probably like all of it. But I used these guidelines for mine: I forced myself to think back to when I was younger and what defined me then...and I worked my way into what I am into now. So it is all over the board. Since it is such a jarring experience, I will include an informational sheet to kind of explain why each song is important to me. I made it a point to choose songs that have a lot of meaning for me.

Anyone else using a similar approach?

I am, albeit unconsciously. I probably didn't go into enough detail about the whys of my selections because I didn't want it to run to too much reading. It is about the music, so I thought the music could speak mostly for itself.

A friendly head's up: SF only allows 20 (or so) mp3 writings before requiring that you register the mp3 writer module seperately. If you are using SF to create the disc, start with the WAV file and do NOT convert to MP3 prior to writing to disc or else the mp3 writer will stop working (not that you couldn't use something else, tho).

And one other point. Looking ahead to the second round (I'm assuming that this will be at least successful enough to eek out a 2nd round), I would like to nominate the idea of a greatest hits from an artist the Cellarite chooses. I am having a crisis of finding new music to like and really need some exposure to other stuff.

I'm looking forward to this. A lot. I'm ready to get enlightened by everyone's tastes and can't wait to give everyone a glimpse into my sick, twisted world. :-)
