I watched the clip before I read the article, and I was so pleased to see they agreed with me that the subtitles were subtly English in tone

I've seen a couple of these - some are better than others. The good ones are really, really good.

the first one i saw, and therefore the best one...was the one that they did when the Goddmaned Giants beat the Cowboys in last year's playoffs.

Those have been around for a while. I first saw them during the election run up. There was one about Hitlery Clinton that was a hoot.
