I generally find female medical professionals more empathetic and less condescending. But I've some across the occasional decent bloke and the occasional awful woman. The awful women are usually older with a distinct air of spinster about them and zero bedside manner, the OK blokes are of varied age and complaint, but are never recently qualified. The noob male doctors are so convinced they are gods they are appalling. Dentists are the worst and i suspect that's because you literally can't comment on your poor treatment at the exact moment you are receiving it.

The last trip I had to the dentist was with a woman. She was very gentle and did a pretty good job from what I can tell. Previous to that, I'd only been to male dentists, and the time lapse between my most recent visit and the one prior to that was about 10yrs. The reason for the time lapse was because I really really loathed and feared going to the dentist because it had always been such a painful and confronting experience.
Thanks to this new dentist, I wont be leaving it so long because it was relatively pain free and she and her nurse were friendly and light hearted which is a trait I find particularly attractive in someone who I think is about to cause me great pain. Hmmmm...very interesting statement that one. Anyway, I don't know if it was because she is a woman, or if it's just she had a different manner and style than other dentists, but she's given me the courage to entertain the idea of going back to the dentist for a checkup in another 6 months or so.

For those of you being arseholes to AD, I think you're being stupid. She was quite clearly asking for other opinions after having had a new experience. It definitely sounds like the first dentist did a bad job, but FFS, there are bad dentists and doctors and representatives of every other profession everywhere in the world.
You people are so quick to pass judgement on others, but some of you never seem look at yourselves very closely.

I sure you take umbrage at the treatment of your anti-American hero. But if Urethra didn't answer serious replies, with snotty, condescending remarks, maybe she wouldn't be treated with the same.

Bruce, you did the same thing to me when I first joined this site and you continue to do it with your snide remarks. I only take umbrage over the fact that you should not be treating people this way. I wouldn't care if she was trying to argue that that the snow only falls at night. She still shouldn't have to put up with the sort of shit you like to dish out to people you just decide you don't like, and nor should I or anyone else.
You're an arsehole. Plain and simple.

AD is a bigot, and Bruce was applying his understanding of that bigotry in this thread.

My dentist is a woman, as are all of the hygenists in her office. Every instrument they use came straight out of Toolbox Murders.

Obviously my earlier comment about my perfection was meant to be humorous. I had a pimple once. I think I was twelve.
But seriously, AD walked into the cellar and behaved like a twat. he/she'll get no sympathy or courtesy from me. Most folks who want to contribute to the cellar try not to piss all over it as a way of introducing themselves.

Yeah, I must confess. I had a female dentist in Berlin who was "this close" to putting her fist into my face because I flinched once! She then told me that she didn't want me as her patience any longer. It's true!

Let's see now ..... ”stupid” ..... ”bigot” ..... ”twat” ..... ”anti-American hero” .... all on this thread alone. That's pretty good! The expression ”anti-American hero” is pretty clever. I think I like it. But the other ones are much too childish and tedious. You guys can carry on with such poppycock, and those involved can clan together and have a good snigger. That's great - and it's fine with me. But please, guys, Be courteous enough to say HE is a ”whatever”. I'm a man, you see. Okay?
I guess I was over-optimistic to assume that everyone knew the great hits by Aretha Franklin. "Dont' send me no doctor, filling me up with all them pills - I got a man called Dr. Feelgood! Ohhhh!" |
