Female Beefeater to guard Tower
The Tower of London has appointed a female Beefeater for the first time in its history.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6226963.stm The Beefeater nickname of the Tower of London's Yeoman Warders is thought to derive from the daily ration of meat they received. Their full title is Yeoman Warder of Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, and Members of the Sovereign's Body Guard of the Yeoman Guard Extraordinary. For state occasions they wear the well-known ceremonial dress of red and gold with red stockings, a white ruff and black patent shoes. For everyday duties they wear dark blue trimmed with red. I saw a small clip of the woman yesterday. I thought she reminded me of SundaeGirl. I can't seem to find a photo of the woman to post. Anyway, this woman seemed so thrilled. What an honor. The first woman ever! |

I think that's kind of cool. She must feel really special. The Beefeaters have been guarding the tower for over 500 years.

Well she had to put in 22 years in the military just to get an audition, and she only gets to wear the fancy $3500 outfit on special occasions.
