Your favorite money saving tips
Here are a couple of mine:
1) Use baking soda for skin care. Just mix a little with some liquid soap and you've got a gentle, CHEAP exfoliator. 2) I love my Virgin Mobile pre-paid cell phone! Maybe it's not the most cost effective for everyone, but I hate phones and try not to use mine too much. So, no contract, no bills--just pay when I want.

3) Order a small cup at fast food places and just refill it if need be instead of buying the supersized drink.

1)Draft beer at a buck a glass rather than paying a buck and a half for a bottle (serious)
2)Put sub-par gas in the 'ghini (not serious) 3)I completely agree about the phone! (serious) 4)Make enough dinner for leftovers for lunch (serious) 5)No cable (serious) 6) Wear last season's shoes (semi-serious; by last season I mean 6 years ago)

you could also use sugar for an exfoliate - little more expensive than b soda, but still cheaper than brand name stuff.
my son has a prepaid boost mobile - works pretty good - especially when he's the one paying for it. |

freshness--yeah, that's a good one. Better yet, drink water. Fountain drinks are overpriced for sugar water.
Jester--sugar and salt can also be used, but are harsher than baking soda. You can also use baking soda for a HUGE number of other things, as well as vinegar, and save money on cleaners, etc. And Shawnee--NO CABLE! No can do!

hehehe...what's funny is that the coaxial connection on the back of my TV was broken, so if I could get metal to metal from the coax cable (from the rabbit ears) I could get one channel. I bought a hundred dollar cheapie TV and now with good connection I get 5 channels. I don't know what to do with myself! But I read and play a lot of PC games (not online, don't have that either!)

if you didn't know this...
you can use b soda & vinegar for your drain pipes - pour some b soda into the drain and follow with the vinegar - the "bubbly" action will go all thru the system (got that from one of our pipefitters here at work) |

eBay!
I don't mind second hand clothes or shoes and I get great bargains because so many people lose/ gain weight or simply have clearouts on a seasonal basis. I love the fact you can search by size - something you can't rely on in shop sales (they get shuffled by people with no sense of community) or private adverts. And charity bookshops for books - library is better unless you are too scared to go back there because you have an outstanding fine and you think the staff will shoot you with laser looks of disgust after 16 months... ahem. And shop in small independent stores for quality items. Large retailers can buy em high and sell em cheap, but if you have a specific product in mind you will be able to negotiate a discount far more easily in a small shop. But try to be reasonable about it - we had a chap the other day who asked if he got a quantity discount for buying 2 x £15 newborn inserts for a pushchair he didn't even buy from us. My boss said, "I won't give you a quantity discount on two items, no. But I'll knock a pound off each one because you've just had two girls [twins] and you'll need all the help you can get."

+Pack a lunch instead of going out every day
+Turn down the heat (I keep ours between 52 and 62°F) +It is usually cheaper (in the long run) to pay more for a high-quality item than some cheap junk from Walmart - you'll be more satisfied, too +Marry someone with lots of money (well, that's not a savings tip, just a life lesson) |
