February 28, 2007: Snow angel record
It's a new record, in Bismarck, ND. In 2002 IotD covered an early snow angel record, but since then the numbers have snowballed (sorry) to 8,900 participants, and this is what it looks like from above. |

I'm surprised at the predominance of orange clothing - is it a common winter colour in the US - high visibility wear maybe?

Yes, great for forming a "cross" when a photo op presents itself.

Yes, for hunters. Supposedly so they don't shoot each other, but it doesn't always work...ask Cheney. Then, of course the deer got ahold of the idea. They sit around in their orange parkas and laugh and laugh.

If you look closely, the folks in orange are attempting to make, I believe, a cross. That sign of persecution and hatred for and of millions of people and thousands of years. JUST KIDDING!! haha How many of you are seeing red right now? Hehe Okay, my REAL COMMENT is based on a quote from the linked article: "Edna Arvidson, 84, of Bismarck, said she participated in the city's record-setting event in 2002. 'It's fun and puts us on the map," Arvidson said. "People think there's nothing going on up here.'" You know, I don't think I am going to comment after all. After an eloquent statement like that, I don't believe I need to. Last edited by Saknussem; 02-28-2007 at 09:59 AM. Reason: typo |

My wife and I tend to buy bright colored winter coats for our kids. Both because the bright colors counter the dreary gray winter weather and also to make them more visible to drivers and hopefully somewhat less likely to be run over.

Why does this remind me of the South Park episode where the 4 million kids played "My Country Tis Of Thee" on recorders?
