DSL

I got a question, has anyone had any experience with Satellite DSL. My parents live in an extremely rural community and live 15 miles from the nearest town and DSL isn't available yet, but my Moms employer said they would pay for DSL for the employees. She was asking me about Satellite DSL. I don't know much about it, and was wondering if anyone had had any experience with it and if they had if it's worth it.

~2 second lag for any connections makes it unacceptable for real-time gaming, but you can get good speed for browsing and downloading.

As you would know, the satellite highspeed is in download mode only and outbound communications are by dial-up modem at low speed.

The problems I've seen with relatives using satellite is that normal browsing is not enhanced by satelite because of the dialogue during web access.

The noticable advantages seem to be for serious downloading of larger files, which may be applicable for work related correspondence or other peer to peer sharing.

For normal browsing, it seems that noticable improvements in speed are achieved by faster computers, more ram and graphics acceleration to speed the page rendering.

I always recommend moving to the city, though.

I thought satellites were two-way now.

This looks like two-way.

So, if the company will pay for it ... go nuts!
