Probably blown off in that storm that came up and blew 60mph at the NJ shore. It's an unusual looking container though, the missing end panel shows what looks like a refrigeration unit and the walls are insulated. Makes me wonder if they normally refrigerate Doritos to keep them from going rancid in a hot container, or they just had one handy?

Could be that container is unrelated to the the Doritos.. It looks in okay ish shape. Usually a bunch of containers come off at once. Maybe a mate was the Doritos and this one is just rotting NY hot dogs.. Oh wait a minute NY hot dogs can't rot!


This ship and 2 others lost 608 containers over the side in one day. OOPS.

It says, translated from the drawn-out phonetics of the text, "Oh, burn!" which is an expression used to indicate that someone else just got mocked very thoroughly or effectively (i.e., Brianna mocked Marichiko's food bank experience from another thread.) The guy in the picture is the character Kelso from the TV show "That 70's Show," which popularized the expression a few years ago. The disco ball is because of course the show is set in the 1970s, and the position he's standing in is reminiscent of a celebratory dance a football player might do when he makes a touchdown (holding the football where the disco ball is.)

...Damn, there are a lot of cultural references in that one image.

Wow, CF, I never figured you as a pedantess. I mean that in a good way.

Just out of curiosity, I would like to throw out a question to the non-US Cellarites. Is the Cellar your only or primary social BBS? If it's not your only board, do you have one that is more local for you that you also visit?

If I could find an Australian or European board with the same kind of dynamic as the Cellar, I might also visit there for a bit of cultural variety.

BTW, I consider myself possibly borderline Asperger's, so I also have a tendancy to be pedantic. I have been known to wince at people who switch the contraction "you're" with the word "your".

That is definitely a reefer (refrigerated) van. Aside from the gash in the side, that's just the way they look. Unless the doors are open on the side we can't see, I would guess that its not the one that the Doritos came out of.

I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to open a reefer van that's been out of power for any length of time, as they are normally filled with perishables such as fish.

I think the fact that the Dorito slick appears to be concentrated only near the container indicates that it's the culprit. I would expect a spill of such lightweight floaty things to disperse somewhat rapidly, so if there's another container, it'd need to be nearby... In which case the story would be about two containers washing up? I'd say the back doors are probably open, if we could see 'em.

Durn photographers, not taking completely explanatory photographs...

Ah, but do you wince at the fact that "That 70's Show" should actually be "That 70s Show," but the official title isn't, so one is forced to type it incorrectly?

I've been thoroughly trained to keep my nerdy neuroses on the inside, but they are there, no doubt about it.
