Thanks, Zip! Fortunately for Colorado pet owners and their animals, none of the products appear to have been sold here.

It is absolutely heart breaking to have a critter go into liver failure on you. This happened to me once with a kitty that somehow got into some anti-freeze. I forced syringes of liquid down her throat just like in the picture that accompanies the story. The vet showed me also how to give her injections of water right under her skin. I fought for 5 days to keep kitty alive, but lost the battle.

My heart goes out to those whose pets were impacted by this.

What's changed? Pilgram's Pride in Franconia PA was selling meats to fast food companies that (and it took something like years to expose what meat inspectors knew) were spreading Listeria. I specifically remember the Pilgram's Pride truck, at local Taco Bell and Kentucky Fried Chicken, unloading meat. This after the Franconia plant was shut down. That truck had all Pilgram Pride decals removed. But the glue still remained - the Pilgram Pride logo still obvious.

Well, Pilgram Pride is finally having some financial problems. Those Franconia workers losing their jobs because of bad management who for years were distributing food in flagrant violation of basic health standards.

Federal inspectors literally describing how chicken would fall to the floor. Employees then return that dirty chicken right back on the conveyor belt. The inspector writes a citation. By the time those who are politically correct finished negotiations, nothing happened.

People had to die before inspectors were finally heard. And, as usual, because the problem was not fixed immediately, then people who suffer most are the employees. BTW, no one from Pilgram Pride management went to jail. Those people died only due to an accident.

Why should any pet foods be any better? Pet foods don't even have inspectors.

Do we get the name of the company who knowingly distributed killer pet food? Not just the brand name. Who is the top company who owns the company who buys from their subsidary company who makes the food. And who are the top executives - by name? Why not?

Aflatoxin was the cause of death in this case. And yes, most pet food is tested. I have a friend who is a lab tech a a pet food company here. All their products are tested before delivery for aflatoxin (which is invisible, oderless and colorless) along with many other impurities which could contaminate the product.
Bad management is the culprit here. It costs money to maintain quality control. That money (in the plant owners' eyes) is a deduction of profit.
Diamond is offering to "pay vet bills". Puhleeze....
The company aforementioned has gone from 1 8 hr shift per day to three 8 hr shifts since this came to the consumer's attention, to supply the demands of Ex Diamond pet food customers.
Good thing it wasn't one of my dogs.
I say: Diamond....read em & weep. Pay up. Do your fucking job.

Well proven for so many generations - a quality control inspector means the factory has no quality control. How did Toyota get their legendary quality? Concept includes eliminating quality control inspectors. How to increase costs? Attempt quality by hiring quality control inspectors.

Correctly noted - a massive problem is directly traceable to bad management that utilizes a classic MBA concept:t "the purpose of a company is its profits". Why does Toyota have that legendary quality? Toyota's #1 purpose is the product. Distributing contaminated pet food is not an accident.

It's only an "accident" when they get caught.

They knew that the food was bad. It says in the article that they had truckloads full of stuff that they were turning away, and it cost them too much money. I bet they just stopped testing the trucks because they didn't care about it. It also said that the dogs would not eat there food, the owners enticed them to eat it with gravy and whatnot.
