11/6/2003: Corner rifle
If my Ghost Recon* sessions are any clue, one of the hardest things about urban warfare is peeking around corners. Especially if you're going to take a shot. Your eyes are attached to your head, so you have to stick out your most critical body part for quite some time, long enough for anyone to take notice and to remove bits of it. Welcome the cornershot, a combination rifle/pistol with a camera and monitor. At this rate I would imagine it would only be good for short distances, and the defense industry waits for cameras and displays to get better. *special forces-based FPS |

I could've used one of those in Counterstrike.

I'm not generally interested in firearms.
But this is VERY cool. |

What would be cool would be if the swivel was motorized and controlled by a little thumb joystick like the eraser-sized ones you find on some laptops. Then you just stick the thing out there, use your thumb to line up the shot, and your index finger to squeeze the trigger. Your other hand would steady the thing, like a real rifle.
With the short barrel, I can't imagine it's that accurate of long distances. (like UT said.) |

I know someone that has a WWII M-3 rifle that has an interchangable barrel for shooting around corners. I understand tankers would open the hatch and use it to clear the vicinity before they stuck their head out. Inaccurate as hell but effective for moving people along.

Great fun. Much easier to kill people now. Around the corner and through the window, to Grandmother's house we go...
I really can't see this getting put into a FPS though. Man people would really be crying cheat. "No you stupid fucker, it's the corner gun! Get off my server, whiner!" Quzah. |

Hoo baby ... that looks like it's built on a Glock. I wonder if it's available as a kit ...
