Soup Kitchen
When to a soup supper last week, a benefit for the local food pantry for the poor. For $18 you could pick out one of hundreds of bowls made by local potters and they'd fill it with soup. You had a choice of coffee, tea, or water and a small roll... very small.
Have you ever tried to eat a bowl of soup with a plastic teaspoon? Honestly, those fuckers are made for stirring and nothing else. The place mats were paper bags decorated with magic markers by I think the Girl Scouts, to put your bowl in to take home when you were done. Had to be careful though, because the bags weren't water proof, not even water resistant. Most of the bowls were done on a wheel and finished in a neutral palate. They could quite easily pass for department store wares. But a conn-e-sewer like myself had to seek out the ultimate fugly

that is pretty grim on the fugly front, and was not created on a wheel, and that glaze is not foodsafe (because of the holes) but other than that, yay for the fundraiser! Srsly though -that is not a bowl made by any potter of worth. Maybe by the girl scout ....in which case good on her.
