Firefox bugs

I love my Firefox, and extentions, but don"t use the tabs (pain in the ass).

But for a while now, even though I have recently upgraded, I have 2 aggrevating problems with Firefox.

1. Can"t us the "apostrophe" at times. It is not letting me use it now, so using the quote sign. It sometimes kicks in when I"ve used "find on this page" and sometimes when not. But it aggrevates me. If I try to the the apostrophe now it opens the "find" search at the bottom of the screen. Using shift or alt or control to type the apostrophe doesn"""grrrrr help!

2. The other thing is that control "c" and control "v" for cut and paste does NOT pick up the highlighted stuff. I sometimes have to go back and do it over and over and over till it works.

I know other people who have this trouble too.

Anyone experiencing this, or can guess what is causing it?

I want my apostrophe back. and I"m not using IE to get it!!!!

PS...this gif is cut in half and won't show (hey now the apostrophe is working again, but won't be for long)

Here is a link to tell me how to fix the firefox9fm gif problem, but I don't understand it. LOL

Because it's wrapped in fieldset tags.

I dissected your animated GIF in GIMP...looks like perhaps it was mangled with some image manipulation tool. There are 28 frames, and they don't all agree on the overall size.

Thanks Maggie. I'm trying to find the original of that gif. Probably won't be able to find it.

Hmmm. for me, apostophe does open the search box if an editable widget (like this quick reply box) isn't focused. Never had trouble with ctrl-C ctrl-V.

Which OS are you on?

Have you dropped into the Firefox support forums? they are awesome there, really helpful and prompt with help.

I just installed the upgrade yesterday, but I havent had any of the problems you are experiencing in the past either.

Whenever I find a problem in Firefox, it always turns out to be a misbehaved extension.

Has anybody had any trouble with Java in Firefox? I've reinstalled both several times, but a Java box just shows up blank in the Firefox window. I finally installed the "Open this window in IE" extention, but that's not a great solution.

Not for a long, long time. I assume you had Java enabled in Tools/Options/Content.

I could understand a box with a red X in the corner...but just blank is really wierd. I'd check the version of Java you have installed, and also any anti-virus or ad-blocker settings.

Try http://www.javatester.org/version.html

I found it! Apparently some self-extracting zip installers failed to set a registry key that allowed Java in Firefox. I got a registry patch, and everything's Javalicious again.

Which is cool, 'cause I've been learning Java and it would be nice to be able to see the results if I get around to doing any browser stuff.

Ah, glad you found the problem. Give me a shout if you have any problems learning Java; I've been working with it since 1996 and hold the SCJP and SCWCD certifications.

I can't say enough good things about The Java Tutorial. And jEdit. BlueJ can be a good learning tool too.
