3/15: Waterlogged digicam takes "magic pictures"
What if you had a camera that could take surreal photos? That's what Mr. Farrell Eaves has. He was in New Mexico attending a seminar on photography when his Nikon CoolPix 990 fell into the Pecos river. He used various means to dry it out, including tying it to the windshield of his car. When it was fully dry, he found that it worked exactly like normal... except that the photos it cranked out were strange and unusual. They had auras, strange lines, shimmering colors. A story on the whole thing was published here and more images can be seen at the website of the photographer who held that seminar (click on "Mr. Eaves and his Magic Camera"). |

Lomo Love
An old roomate of mine (a graphic artist) is also a shutterbug. he's taken a bunch of really odd pictures of our life together that I really love (like the first time I shaved my head, and ended up w/ a mohawk for a couple of days). He has several different 'odd' cameras. The most interesting of which, imho, is the Lomo. It is a Russian camera that takes some really amazing pics w/o any filters. It is a low-light camera (I believe extra small versions were used by Russian spies) that has to be held extremely still to get clear pictures. When you don't, the effects are interesting, at a minimum.

Geez... humor's a strange and fickle thing, isn't it? You never know what's gonna tickle your funny bone. That was the funniest comment I've read in ages! I wonder why?

Looks like he's still (or back) in the news.
Kelso is a local funny man. I run into him at the gym every once in a while, and we talk all sorts of great topics -- like beer ("WTF is hoppy?"), barbecue, and dogs. I recommend reading his recent columns there, too. |

Strange. Lucrative, but strange.

Some people have the darnedest of luck, I spend 4 years of my life going to college to get an art degree, and this all thumbs bum drops his camea, viola instant art fame. Sure i can do the same with my camera but then i'd be jsut copying him.

This isn't the first time this has happened. My friend did the same thing with one of his cameras last year (only with a toilet, i didn't ask, i didn't want to know), but his photos whern't as cool, alot of the time there were ghosts left from the previously taken photos, wich durned out cool and the immages had alot of the same grainy texture, i think it was an HP camera. I've seen this before, and I still wanna poo-poo it (but it takes a couple hours) but it's pretty nifty how the Art Effect (tm) usually works in just the right places. On the other hand, my camera can do this:

The point is that Farrell Eaves' camera takes really cool pictures.
