July 4, 2011: Freedom map
C-man points to this IotD from 2002, in which Freedom House, a group that promotes freedom and Democracy throughout the world, developed a map indicating roughly how free each nation is. He notes that they've updated it and here is the 2011 version. Green countries are free, yellow are semi-free and blue are unfree. |

Could be out of date already: Thailand has just elected a new Prime Minister democratically, ousting the government that was installed by a military coup. I'd like to hope for the best and say Thailand is green now.

Wish I knew what their criteria was.. I waded around in that horrid site and couldn't find anything.
Gah! They switched some colors! Makes it hard to compare. Last edited by SPUCK; 07-04-2011 at 05:22 AM. |

Spuck, I noticed the same thing - It was hard to compare them, but it was still an interesting read nonetheless.
