Does anyone know how to use Joomla?
My husband and I bought a web based store.. and it uses Joomla. We know nothing about scripting and need a few things tweaked.
The manuals are confusing me. So I was wondering if anyone out there could translate geek into idiot proof? We want the side margins to be wider.... right now the descriptions get cut off. This is the main issue right now... We would like to change the colour scheme. We would like the pop up pictures to be bigger. Those are the three we are working on right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Most of those things are not fixed by tweaking Joomla, they're tweaked by fixing the CSS and the php code that runs Joomla. Like most things involved in web design, they seem simple, but are actually pretty complex for a beginner.
Are you interested in learning how to actually DO the work involved, or are you just interested in it being done? If you're curious and want to learn for the sake of knowing, then tweaking something like this would be a great place to start. If you just want to get it done and get down to the business of running your store, it would be well worth your time to hire a pro. It would take them an hour or two, it will take you days.

Well.... I might as well learn it... it *is* our store.... and if we decide to change things... we should be able to do it ourselves. I really can't afford to hire a pro at this time.... getting the product for the home party side of this cost me over $1000!!! Thing is, until the site is up and running, we are not making any money... lol funny how that works. So I add a few products a night, try to understand the web page speak (which is making me cross eyed atm) and find the bugs that need fixing
![]() I am trying to learn one thing at a time, so I don't get hopelessly confused. |

Don't kid yourself
Learning the technology behind Joomla will take a lot of time and effort.
You will be better off for it. However, if you want to make money and learn how it works, hire a pro for an hour or two to teach you and get you going in the right direction. There are good professionals that will be able to help you with this. |

Ok can't find any pros in my area for under $150/hr.... so anyone out there want to work for lingerie? ROFL or at least fix the 3 main issues for a set cost?
I even asked on the Joomla support forums, but no answers (probably because I don't know code, and said that flat out) |

have you posted on the freelancer sites?
Heya,
Have you posted on the freelancer sites yet? You can find some people from a distance that can work cheaper and fix your issues. |

Send me a PM and maybe we can talk about what you want and need. I'm not a freelancer but want to start building my resume in that direction, so you can get a pretty good deal out of me.
