People who suck!

When people suck they need to be told they suck. This thread is for telling off those who suck.

The Mom of one of my little guys at school related this to me. She was working her twins through a crowded McDonalds. Both kids have autism and are identified as mr. Walk a couple steps in her shoes. The boys are on limited diets so basically mickey dees is verboten. One lad manages to swipe a fist full of fries from a kid and stuffs them in his mouth. Mom apologizes and offers to go buy the kid some more fries. The other mom says forget it, no problem. End of story? No because some people suck. The dad says, "Fucking retards." I would have tossed the bastard through the window. end of story.

Funny thing is, I only use that phrase in recognition of the behavior of people who haven't been diagnosed as such.

The guy is a grade a prick, and probably would have benefitted from a tuneup, but why was the mom in a situation where what happened could have happened in the first place? I'm sure that she's been through enough to know that one way of preventing things from happening is by not being where they can happen in the first place.

*to the tune of "Anticipation", by Carly Simon*

We can never know about people around us
But we think about them anyway
And I wonder if they have a thought in their head
Or if they think about what they say.

Defenestration, defenestra-ation,
is making me smile
watching you falling.

And I tell you how hard it is with you
And how right my hands around your throat would feel.
But then I heard those words just right out loud
When I was thinking about how right your flight might be.

Defenestration, defenestra-ation,
is making me smile
watching you falling.

And tomorrow we might not be together
I’m no prophet, but I pray it'll be that way.
So I'll act on behalf of all of us here
And make you see, what we all can see, that you have to pay.

I work with this kid in a controlled environment five days a week. We keep him in a situation where he is almost always in a 1:2 aide or teacher to students and his remarkable peripheral vision and quick hands disrupt the classroom daily. Imagine Mom burned out from 24/7-365 staying on top of everything all the time. It can't be done. I assume a friend invited them to a McD's party and she wanted to be a normal mom for once, doing regular things. No such luck.

Griff - I totally understand where you are coming from. My co-worker from our Washington office has a child who is retarded, and when we come down there for business we often get together for dinner. We are very good friends, so I always ask her to bring her kids along, since we don't need some stuffy business dinner.
I can't tell you how livid I get to see other diners staring, or glaring....etc.
My co-worker always suggests certain restaurants, and it took me a while to realize it was to minimize the focus on her child. It's usually noisy buffet type places rather than the quiet formal restaurants. She always says "I can get a sitter if you want", but I always let her know that I am more than happy to have dinner with them (her husband works nights, so a normal night is just her and the girls). I know that it's fun for the kids to get out now & then, and I enjoy their company.

Now, if she indicated that she wanted to go out for a "grownup dinner" I would be just as fine with that too.

Anyway, to get back to the issue - I can't stand it when people act as though there's some special bubble that protects the child & her family & friends from noticing the stares, the shrugs while looking at others, the snickers..... the pity looks..... the list goes on and on.

In your case, does that asshole think that the mom didn't hear him call the child a retard? If he hoped that she heard it, what the fuck was he trying to prove?
I applaud you for holding your tongue. I don't know if I could have.

Restaurants usually leave you with some time to kill. Good for conversation (unless your married )
Kids, like puppies, almost guarantee nonstop action to watch. I hope parents of retarded kids don't assume everyone looking at their kids is being critical.
OK, I'm sure they pick up on "the shrugs while looking at others, the snickers, the pity looks" and obvious reactions but for their own sakes, not people just being entertained by kids.
I'm just saying, ya know?

Oh, thanks V. New word for me.

He knew she'd hear him. I wasn't there. If I was I'd have given him the xoxoBruce treatment. I'm usually well behaved in public but that would not have passed.

I would venture to guess the jack a$$ that called the kids retards is not exactly a rocket scientist if you know what I mean. I also wouldn't doubt it if he either neglects or beats his wife/kids....

I was in a McD's and i saw a similar situation. The wife got upset because we had just come from the Special Olympics (volunteer helper - I was Security, she was Registration), and she wanted to say something.

We got our food and were about to leave, when I turned, went into the dining area and saw the offended mother quietly crying.

I announced, real loud and pointing at the asshole who made the remark "Hey look everyone! There's a guy who can't have sex without hearing the words "No Daddy! Please don't touch me there!"

When he went to stand up, all I said was "Go ahead punk. Make a move."

When you're 6'3" and 300 lbs., you get away with shit like that.
