Cronyism

So Bush wants his personal lawyer on the Supreme Court? Sounds like he's expecting "US v. Bush" to come up...

Someone was talking about this on another board. But apparently, this was one of Reid's recommendations. I'm not putting on my tinfoil hat just yet...

Yeah, the reaction to her has been odd - relief from many Democrats and outrage from many Republicans - but still: his personal lawyer? Who headed his search for Supreme Court nominees? Right after "Heckuva Job Brownie"?

Yeesh.

I wouldn't be too surprised if she's a decoy, to be shot down with some Republican nays, thus making the next nominee harder to refuse.

Before work got busy tonight I kinda remember seeing something on one of the news sites saying she'd contributed big to Gore?

In 1980. Only Republicans since then.

I heard: 1988. Possibly due to her law firm at the time. Looks like she reports in as a Democrat in the early 80s who changed during the Reagan era.

One reading of these tea leaves, in the conspicuous absence of a paper trail of judgements and opinions, is that she's not an idealogue. Or at least not a old crusty one.

Upon further review of Roberts and Miers, I must say that both are pretty reasonable choices. Unless this is the greatest underhanded pair of stealth Right-winger appointments in history (and I really don't think Dubya and his pals are smart enough to be that sneaky), I'm going to have to retract my previous paranoid remarks about the future of Supremes.

I guess we'll know more in ten years or so, huh?

Sneaky seems to be just about the only kind of smart they are.

GWB has said "It is important we preserve Executive Privilege." when asked if he would share documents regarding Mier's writings. He said he is prepared to invoke Executive Privilege if asked to share the documents.
