				Gargantuan snail

I walked by my front porch last night, and encountered this frightening creature: <img src="http://www.newzucanuze.com/images/Four-inch-snail.jpg"> <i><b>"On my front porch! Where my wife sleeps! And my kids go to play!"</b></i> This is a composite because there was no scale, but I just had to follow a huge slime trail to find the exact brick where the original was taken. Is it a big snail or a miniature conch? Last edited by Nothing But Net; 06-18-2004 at 09:19 PM. |

I'm just wondering why your wife sleeps on the porch.

Bah! The slugs in Seattle would beat that puny thing up. IIRC we had 'em up to 6" or more and as big around as a quarter. Of course, they didn't the redeeming quality of that nice shell. |

What I want to know is if mine is just a baby of what Kitsune posted. The shells exhibit marked similarities. Holy slime, Batman! But I ain't going down without a fight! |

Look up "Giant African Land Snail". They're starting to appear in FL because people are keeping them as, yes, pets. Ugh. They destroyed vegetation and are illegal to import or keep. Ugly bastards, too.

Man, I hope we don't have any French chefs reading this thread. That's all we need...an invasion of illegal escargot harvesters.

That's pretty gross ... I am, however, a fan of escargot. I do have to admit that I much prefer the smaller snails to the big, fat, chunky ones. So if you cooked up that three-incher, I don't think it would be very tasty. On a random CD I have somewhere around here, I have a photo I took in Scottsdale, Ariz., of a 3-inch cockroach/bug/critter that we found outside our hotel. My friend put his bare foot down for comparison, but then the bug suddenly jumped on his foot and he flipped out. Too funny. I'll post pic when I find it. Zoolander is SO on TBS tonight. I love it. |
