Penn and Teller: Bullshit!

Has anyone seen this show? I'd never even heard of it, because I don't get Showtime, but someone at work had an mpeg of the "Recycling" episode, discussing how recycling anything except aluminum cans is a huge waste of money and actually *hurting* the environment. It was a fascinating episode, though dragged out a little longer than they really had material/information for.

What other topics have they covered?

It's a good show.

Refresh my memory on how recycling hurt the environment? I mainly remember them saying how much money and time it wasted.

They've done shows on speakers to the dead, bottled water, environmentalism in general, chiropractors, spoon benders (and their ilk), anti-globalization, and tons more topics.

I don't have Showtime either, but I got the first DVD from Netflix and liked it enough to want to get the second. On the disc I got they did alien abductions, alternative medicine (including magnets, chiropracters, and reflexology), psychics who speak to the dead, and Nostradamus. My favorite was when they got a guy in a white lab coat and a stethoscope to stand in a mall and offer free demos of new medical breakthroughs. (Example: letting snails crawl all over your face so the slime can reduce your wrinkles.) Mrs. Dallas said she about hurled when they showed the chiropractic adjustment of the infant.

Basically that the increased number of trucks needed to pick up the recycling from neighborhoods and the plants themselves polluted the air, plus some nasty byproducts were created in the recycling process, especially at the paper plants.

Right. I've driven past one paper recycling plant more times than I care to remember. Awful smell.

They need to move that show over to HBO. The only thing Showtime is good for is soft porn.

They need to move the show to Comedy Central. The only thing HBO is good for is premium subscribers.

I was just teasing because we were already specifically talking about the show called "Bullshit!," and it had even already been mentioned as being on Showtime. It seemed like you thought the thread was about Penn and Teller in general.

It's well worth the $12 and change I pay for it every month.

I've often wondered if recycling is counterproductive and have come close to starting a thread in here to ask what everyone else thought. I really do think its a waste but don't want to "take a stand" until I have all the facts straight.

I have the same suspicion about HOV lanes. I would bet good money that they increase average driving time and, therefore, harmful emissions.

But, for some, its sacrilege to even ask and I have to admit to having something of a big problem with that.

"Dead Like Me" is funny. And if they ever get around to showing the end of "Jeremiah", that'll be cool. But therwise, yeah.
