School Woes
Ok, so I’m supposed to be graduating In December(’03) but a few road blocks have sprung up in my path. Starting last fall I made the stupid, stupid mistake of taking 18 credits and no one bothered to tell me that it would kick my butt. I don't even know why I took that many but I guess it was because I wanted to hopefully graduate by May'03. Well I ended up not passing 3 of the 5 classes I took, and was thus placed on Academic Warning.
Spring semester has now come and gone. I did pretty well I got straight C's except for this one class. In this class I have a British teacher(this is how she will be known through the rest of this rant, no offence to British people intended, just to her), and apparently according to her if any thing is worth doing it should be done right. Which I mostly agree with her on. Except for when it comes to failing a student just so said student will take her class again. According to her she said that it would do me some good to take the class again, and she doesn't want me graduating with out passing her class (which I must do, and she is the only teacher at my school who teaches it). So when it was my turn on the class roster to visit with the her 2 weeks from the end of last semester, she sits me down and the first words out of her mouth are "You’re going to fail this class, and there is nothing you can really do about it." I tried to reason with her and I explained to her that I'm Learning Disabled and 2 weeks before the end of class is no time to judge a Learning Differently student; and that all the papers for her class that were missing (3) would get turned in and would be apart of my end of semester portfolio for that class. I also tried to explain to her that I was on academic warning from the school already and if she gave me this grade there could be some serious repercussions. So all the grades come in and in one fell swoop of a computer algorithm I’m academically suspended. I am kicked out of the two summer courses I’m scheduled for and I’m removed from the courses for (what I had hoped was) my last semester in the fall. Ok this is getting long, but I needed to vent. I’ll shorten the rest of the story. Talked to the Department Head, he said I needed a Dean’s Over-ride, or a withdrawal from the course last semester. Went to Dean She said No, to both of the options. Sat in on the summer course British Teacher is teaching. The same course I would be retaking, if I wasn’t suspended. Talk to her she says she wants me in her class, explained I couldn’t because she/I got me suspended. She then says “What will it take to get me into her class?” I tell her that she has to change the grade she gave me last semester. So she says ok. Happiness ensues right? Well that was last week, and I need to reschedule my classes which I got kicked out of. During this time I’ve been sitting in on the summer session of her course, and I’ve tried to be a good little boy. But this week I stayed after to talk to her and I asked her if the paper work for the grade change has gone through and she said “I don’t think it will. I’m in discussion with the Department Head, and things still need to be worked out.” So now I’m going to a class I’m not even enrolled in and I have to sit through and do all the assignments for this class again, only on the hope that she will change my grade. And I still can’t register for my classes, and I just don’t know when I’m going to graduate. Sorry for the length but I needed to vent. What would you do? What are the rules for academic suspension? Does it ever expire? Can you just wait until next year and then go back?

I have to wait two semesters(summer counts) and then i'm placed back on warning. if I screw up again after that. I get booted out of school compleatly.

Well, if it were me, I would just wait and go back in the Spring. It's only another year, and maybe the time off will do you good. It will cure the "burnt-out"-ness, and you can come back with a fresh head and mindset.
Plus, there may be more jobs in a year than there are now. |
